Questions

Before you ship, know this.

What is a Customs House Agent (CHA) and why do I need one?

A CHA is a licensed professional authorized to clear goods through Indian customs on your behalf. They handle documentation, HS code classification, duty payment, and regulatory compliance. Using a licensed CHA like Zeptune ensures your cargo clears without delays, penalties, or seizures.

How long does customs clearance typically take in India?

Standard clearance takes 1–3 working days at major ports like JNPT or Mundra. With proper documentation and pre-filing, we often achieve same-day clearance. DG cargo or goods requiring additional licenses may take 3–5 days.

Do you handle both import and export customs clearance?

Yes. We file Bills of Entry (imports) and Shipping Bills (exports) via ICEGATE, handling HS classification, duty calculation and all regulatory documentation for both directions.

What is an IEC and do I need one to import/export?

An Importer Exporter Code (IEC) is a 10-digit registration issued by DGFT. It's mandatory for any business importing or exporting goods in India. We assist with IEC registration as part of our compliance services.

Can you help with Free Trade Agreement (FTA) benefits?

Yes. We identify applicable FTAs, verify Rules of Origin, and file for preferential duty rates — one of the most underutilised cost-saving tools in cross-border trade.

What is cargo consolidation and when should I use it?

Consolidation groups multiple small shipments (LCL) into a single container. Use it when your cargo doesn't fill a full container — you'll pay only for the space you use, typically saving 30–50% on freight costs.

Do you provide real-time shipment tracking?

Yes. Every shipment gets a tracking reference with milestone updates: booking confirmation, departure, customs status, and delivery.

What are DDP, DDU, and DAP shipping terms?

These are Incoterms defining who pays for shipping, insurance and duties. DDP (Delivered Duty Paid): seller covers everything. DAP (Delivered at Place): seller delivers, buyer pays duties. DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid): similar to DAP. We execute all three end-to-end.
